Pressure ulcers are a common and serious complication of living with a spinal cord injury. People with SCI use a variety of pressure ulcer prevention techniques including whelchair push-ups, forward trunk leans, and lateral trunk leans. This modular project looks at the effectiveness of various pressure ulcer prevention techniques.

These techniques will be using a new portable device for telecare of persons with SCI. The device is one of a class of devices called "physical activity monitoring systems" or PAMsys. A PAMsys sensor can be worn on a person's chest area and it measures physical activity using the movement of a wearer's trunk. The PAMsys system gives people with SCI a new way to collaborate with their clinicians and prevent secondary complications.
